We know we have a responsibility to invest in the communities where we live and work. We make a difference through our three core pillars:

A Helping Hand
We know we have a role to play in supporting the most vulnerable people in society. We take this role very seriously. That includes supporting the British Gas Energy Trust to give grants and debt advice and making sure our people can help recognise when customers are vulnerable and support them in the best way possible.

In Local Communities
We’re working with local communities to help them use less energy. Through local partnerships and innovative approaches, we’re helping communities understand how to be more energy efficient.

Building Britain’s Skills
We’re also helping to build the skills Britain needs for a bright future, as one of the largest providers of quality apprenticeships in the country. And our flagship schools programme, Generation Green, aims to get young people excited about energy.

We also encourage all of our people to volunteer – all our people get two paid days to volunteer every year. To make it even easier we’ve launched a new online portal full of opportunities. We aim to reach 350,000 hours and 1 in 3 of our employees volunteering through this portal by 2018.
